Hywel is an ICT professional expert in the commercial application of IT systems, Manufacturing Systems and Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC). His focus is on advising clients to modernise their compliance management systems and ensure their assets are fit for purpose, fully efficient and up to date.
An associate consultant to the only GS1 accredited system provider company in Wales, Hywel has worked extensively in the higher education sector and in private industry. He has provided consultancy services to 'blue chip' clients in markets including logistics, retail, facilities or asset management, automotive, healthcare, stadia and utilities.
Having graduated as a Bachelor of Technology in Textile Technology from Bradford University, Hywel quickly progressed to being exclusively concerned with IT and its application. He worked for a textile company in Nottingham and a steel re-rolling company in Cardiff, followed by many years with an IT company providing bespoke solutions and software support to various sectors. He spent 15 years as a self-employed consultant to manufacturing companies in diverse areas from vehicle building to elastic fabric.
Hywel has project managed two Welsh Government schemes based in Universities. At Newport University, he was involved in a project to increase industry knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and he spent 4½ years running the AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Capture) Centre for Wales in the University of Glamorgan.
He has lecturing experience from HNC to Master’s degree level in subjects as diverse as systems analysis and operations management, he is also a published writer and is currently collaborating with lecturers at Cardiff University to produce a text book on e-procurement and logistics.
